Pastef party event in Ndiaganiao banned by local authorities
The sub-prefect of Fissel, Mouhamed Malick Ngom, has revoked an initial authorization for the Pastef party to hold a membership card sales event in Ndiaganiao. While the event was originally scheduled for September 5, 2026, a subsequent administrative order issued 24 hours later prohibited the gathering.
The administration cited potential threats to public order and an insufficient number of security forces to manage the event as the primary reasons for the cancellation. The decision is being enforced by the Ndiaganiao gendarmerie brigade.
Pastef’s National Political Bureau has denounced the decision as a “spectacular reversal” and accused the territorial administration of failing to maintain republican neutrality. The party has called on its supporters to remain calm and avoid provocations, while stating its intention to pursue legal avenues to defend public liberties and calling on the Minister of the Interior to intervene.
