Pastef party faces internal tensions and accusations in Senegal

Internal tensions and accusations are mounting within Senegal’s Pastef political party. Sadikh Traoré, a communications official for Pastef/Thiès-Nord, has denied allegations made by Abdoulaye Mao Fall regarding the party’s treatment of his son, former corporal Ousseynou Fall. Fall, currently detained at Rebeuss prison, had accused the party of failing to assist him. Traoré countered that the party provided legal support through an attorney engaged by a former deputy and asserted that Pastef is a “school of citizenship” rather than a dangerous organization.

Separately, Thierno Ali Sy, a Pastef coordinator, has commented on growing disillusionment within the party toward President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. Sy suggested that the sense of betrayal felt by some members reflects a broader shift in the party’s direction. He noted that divergences between the President and Ousmane Sonko reportedly began in the early months of the administration, leading to public denunciations of a change in political trajectory.
