Pasto hosts first LGBTIQ+ political leadership seminar
The Mayor's Office of Pasto, through the Secretariat of Women, Sexual Orientations, and Gender Identities, hosted the First Seminar on LGBTIQ+ Political Leadership Training. The academic event brought together students, community leaders, academic representatives, and institutional officials.
The seminar aimed to promote political participation for the LGBTIQ+ population and provide tools to strengthen leadership through the exchange of knowledge between academia, institutions, and social organizations. Discussions covered topics including identity, memory, rights, democracy, and political agendas.
Jaqueline Castillo, the Secretary of Women, Sexual Orientations, and Gender Identities, stated that these spaces are intended for the recognition and vindication of LGBTIQ+ rights, aiming to integrate the community into decision-making processes. Daniela Narváez, dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Universidad Mariana, contributed to the event by presenting on the jurisprudential lines regarding the constitutional rights of the LGBTIQ+ community.
