Pasto launches new LGBTQI+ board and hosts gender equity workshop
The municipal government of Pasto, Colombia, appointed new members to the LGBTQI+ Participation Table for the 2026‑2027 term under Municipal Decree 0126 of 2025. The office, led by the Secretariat of Women, Sexual Orientations and Gender Identities, aims to formalize sector leadership and advance policies in education, health and human rights as part of the city’s development plan.
In the rural district of Gualmatán, also within the Pasto municipality, an academic‑community workshop was held to strengthen the Public Policy for Women and Gender Equity (2019‑2031). Researchers presented findings on women’s perceptions of the policy, barriers to implementation, and a project to boost digital entrepreneurship for rural, Afro‑descendant and indigenous women across several Colombian regions and Mexico. The event united municipal officials, university staff and local women leaders to discuss strategies for improving gender equity at the local level.
