Pastor Gerardo Contreras Avilés appointed Yucatán Secretary of Fisheries

Yucatán Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena has appointed Pastor Gerardo Contreras Avilés as the new head of the Secretariat of Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sepasy). Contreras Avilés succeeds Lila Rosa Frías Castillo, who resigned to pursue the Morena party nomination for the mayoralty of Progreso.

Contreras Avilés, a former technical subsecretary of Sepasy, is noted as the first ‘man of the sea’ to lead the department in the state's history. His background includes experience as a diver, fisherman, and leader of fishing cooperatives, as well as serving as a representative for the National Commission of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Conapesca) in Yucatán.

The appointment is part of broader cabinet changes in the state administration as various officials transition to seek local mayoral and legislative positions.
