Ohio Pastor Israel Ford announces polygynous marriage

Israel Ford, co-founder of LifeWorks Church in Wickliffe, Ohio, has publicly announced that he has been in a polygynous marriage for approximately three years. During a church service on October 25, 2026, Ford’s first wife, Pastor Lydia Ford, introduced his second wife, Minister Shakayla Ford, to the congregation.

Lydia Ford described the arrangement as a “marriage of three” and referred to Shakayla as her “sister in marriage.” Shakayla addressed the congregation, stating that the relationship is aligned with God’s will and that she has not felt sidelined or in competition with Lydia.

Pastor Ford defended the decision on social media, arguing that the societal expectation of monogamy is “unbiblical.” He cited biblical figures such as Abraham, Jacob, and David to support his interpretation of scripture. While acknowledging that his stance may cause some followers to disconnect from his ministry, Ford stated he would not prioritize public approval over his religious convictions.
