Pastoris film premieres in Spain using endangered Rebollar dialect
The film ‘Pastoris’, directed by Pablo Moreno, is set to premiere this weekend in Palencia, Salamanca, and Ciudad Rodrigo. The production is notable for being the first fiction film shot entirely in the Rebollar dialect, a variety of Asturleonés currently at risk of disappearing.
Set in the 19th century during the War of Independence, the story follows a shepherd named Domingo on a journey of redemption and memory. The narrative centers on the tradition of transhumance between Salamanca and Extremadura, aiming to highlight the linguistic and cultural heritage of rural Spanish regions.
Filming took place over one year across natural landscapes in the provinces of Cáceres, Salamanca, and Burgos. The film is produced by Stellarum Films, InvértebraFilms, and Pocas Nueces. Premiere events in Salamanca and Ciudad Rodrigo will include colloquiums with the director to engage directly with the audience.
