International cricket teams manage player returns and series preparations

Several international cricket teams are managing player availability and strategic preparations ahead of upcoming series.

Afghanistan fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq has returned to the squad for the upcoming T20 series against India after recovering from a right shoulder stress fracture. The series, hosted by Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, will also mark Ibrahim Zadran’s first assignment as the full-time T20 captain.

Australia’s captain Pat Cummins plans to use upcoming One Day International (ODI) matches in Zimbabwe and South Africa as preparation for a high-priority Test series against South Africa. Cummins indicated he may only participate in a limited number of the six scheduled ODI games to manage his workload. Similarly, fast bowlers Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood are expected to feature in some limited-overs matches before the Test assignment.

In a separate development, South African middle-order batsman Jason Smith has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 tri-series involving South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia due to an adductor muscle strain. His status for the subsequent ODI series remains uncertain pending further medical evaluation.
