Pat Porpiglia honored at cultural event in Reggio Calabria
A cultural event was held at the Sala Mons. Giovanni Ferro of the Archbishopric Curia in Reggio Calabria to honor the Calabrian writer and poet Pat Porpiglia. Promoted by the cultural movement ‘Cento e più Poeti per la Pace’ and coordinated by Dr. Giovanni Suraci, the meeting explored themes of memory, roots, and the experience of emigration.
Porpiglia, originally from the Aspromonte region, emigrated to Canada after high school and lived there for over twenty years. His literary work, which includes nine published books of poetry and short stories, serves as a testimony to his life experiences and the connection between personal history and Calabrian identity. During the event, various contributors, including Marina Neri, Nino Cotroneo, and Giuseppe Giunta, read excerpts from his works.
