Patagonia festivals showcase migrant artists and international folk performers

In the Magallanes region of Chile, the collective exhibition Emigrarte “Territorio en vuelo” was held at the Fitz Roy neighbourhood community centre. Organized by the Mesa Regional de Artistas Migrantes with support from the regional culture ministry, the event featured collaborative works by artists from Venezuela, Peru, Mexico and Paraguay, alongside local Chilean communities. Performances included an immersive installation by actress‑educator Indira Jiménez Ramos, visual art by Lisbeth Contreras, and a dance program highlighted by Yaismary Sánchez. Communicator Arlyn Valdez said, “Este tipo de actividades permite a los individuos descubrir sus talentos artísticos. El arte es un puente para encontrar el común y fortalecer los lazos comunitarios.”

A separate cultural highlight, the Festival Folclórico de la Patagonia in Punta Arenas, drew Chilean audiences to Argentine folk groups and welcomed a Mexican artist for the first time. Festival director Héctor Pávez noted, “Creo que nuestros hermanos argentinos han sentido el calor del pueblo chileno,” and added, “Hace algunos años dije que ojalá pudieran participar artistas de otros países latinoamericanos y ahora tenemos la sorpresa de que llegó alguien desde México.” The festival aims to broaden its international reach while preserving its Chile‑Argentina heritage.
