Patagonia to host annular solar eclipse in February 2027

An annular solar eclipse, characterized by the ‘ring of fire’ effect, is scheduled to occur on February 6, 2027. The phenomenon will be visible across parts of South America, including Chile and Argentina.

In Argentina, the Patagonia region will serve as a primary observation site. In the province of Chubut, locations such as Esquel, Trevelin, Nahuelpan, and the area near Piedra Parada are positioned within the eclipse's path. Esquel is noted for its low light pollution and tourism infrastructure, with local authorities planning to provide certified solar glasses and astronomical camps.

In the province of Río Negro, Viedma will experience the annular phase for approximately seven minutes. Other areas, such as Bariloche and General Roca, will observe a partial eclipse. The NASA-confirmed event is expected to draw significant interest to the Andean and Patagonian landscapes.
