Patagonian literature and culture highlighted through regional events and international presentations

Various literary and cultural initiatives are highlighting the heritage of the Patagonia region in Argentina. In Neuquén, the province is preparing an institutional stand for the 13th International Book Fair, scheduled for September 11–20. Organized by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture and the Fondo Editorial Neuquino, the space will focus on creating “reading scenes” and honoring local writers like María Cristina Ramos rather than commercial sales.

In Santa Cruz, several literary milestones are being marked. Writer Darío Carlos Mosso has released a comprehensive volume, “Cuentos completos 2006-2023,” compiling 102 stories spanning science fiction, crime, and local customs. Additionally, the artistic collective “Amigos de la Estepa,” featuring performers from Santa Cruz and Chile, will present “Canto de la Tierra y del Agua” at the 32nd Provincial Book Fair in Río Gallegos.

On an international level, Santa Cruz author Osvaldo Mondelo presented his work, “Mulato (Chumjaluwun) Cuando las ovejas corrieron a los tehuelches,” in Lugo, Spain. During the event, Mondelo reflected on the pluricultural identity of Patagonia and the immigrant history that shaped the region. Meanwhile, the Francisco Peñasco library in San Rafael is celebrating its centenary with cultural performances to honor its 100-year history.
