Local governments across several regions are conducting diverse maintenance and sanitation campaigns to improve urban environments and mitigate risks.
In Venezuela, the José Ángel Lamas municipality is performing cleaning, weeding, and pruning across multiple sectors, including the Santa Cruz – Turagua road and the Surupey deep water well. In Spain, the Paterna City Council removed approximately 140,000 kilograms of pruning waste in La Canyada over five days, while Castelldefels has been recognized for its high recycling rates in Catalonia.
In Mexico, Toluca authorities have collected 16 tons of waste during the Alfeñique Cultural Festival to maintain cleanliness around the Benito Juárez Market. Additionally, ecology departments in Piedras Negras report 45% progress in cleaning the El Soldado stream, and Isla Mujeres is conducting junk removal to prevent mosquito breeding.
In Peru, the Comptroller General has warned that unfinished cleaning and desilting work on the Sama River by the Inclán District Municipality leaves crops and homes vulnerable to the El Niño phenomenon.
