Pati community group plans Jakarta protest over Asset Forfeiture Bill
The Aliansi Masyarakat Pati Bersatu (AMPB), a group representing citizens from Pati, Central Java, is planning a large-scale demonstration in Jakarta on August 27, 2026. The group intends to protest in front of the DPR RI building to advocate for the passage of the Asset Forfeiture Bill (RUU Perampasan Aset) as part of anti-corruption efforts.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stated that the demonstration is permitted under democratic principles, provided that participants do not engage in violence or damage public facilities. He noted that the provincial government will use a humanist approach to manage the event and is coordinating with the police and Satpol PP to ensure order.
In response to the planned mobilization, Muhammad Rifky, Chairman of the Bamus Betawi Customary Council, has urged the group to exercise restraint. While expressing support for anti-corruption measures, Rifky advised against bringing excessive crowds to maintain security and ethnic harmony in Jakarta, suggesting that representatives should convey aspirations rather than large-scale mass mobilization.
