Pati student assaulted by classmates over theft accusation

A 16-year-old student, identified by the initials DA, was reportedly assaulted by more than ten classmates at Sekolah Rakyat Terintegrasi 1 in Pati, Central Java. The incident occurred on September 29, 2026, after the student was accused of stealing soap, a claim the victim denies.

The assault resulted in physical injuries, including a broken and a lost tooth, as well as bruising to the head and shoulders. The victim required medical treatment at RS Keluarga Sehat and RSUD Soewondo. Beyond physical injuries, the student is reportedly experiencing trauma.

The victim's family has reported the case to the police and engaged legal counsel. Bima Agus Murwanto, the lawyer representing the family, noted discrepancies in how the school handled the situation, alleging that the school failed to inform the family when the student was taken to the hospital and initially claimed the injuries were from a fall down stairs. The school administration reportedly characterized the incident as an internal matter and made unsubstantiated claims regarding the student's character during meetings with legal representatives.
