Patiala: Couple injured in Pitbull attack during house inspection

A couple was seriously injured in an attack by a pet Pitbull in the Ghuman Nagar area of Patiala, Punjab, while inspecting a house for rent. The victims, identified as Ankit Sabharwal and Shifali Sabharwal—a professor at Chandigarh University—were accompanied by a real estate dealer at the time of the incident.

CCTV footage shows the dog rushing out as the gate was opened, mauling the couple. Shifali sustained severe injuries to her arms and legs, requiring surgery, while Ankit suffered bite wounds to his back and legs while attempting to protect his wife. Local residents eventually intervened with sticks to drive the animal away and rescue the victims.

Patiala Police have taken note of the incident and stated that legal action will be pursued under Section 291 of the BNS following the receipt of medical reports. In response to the attack, Patiala Mayor Kundan Gogia indicated that the Municipal Corporation is considering restrictions on keeping aggressive dog breeds within city limits.
