Patiala: Elderly woman assaulted by daughter-in-law

A video circulating on social media has captured an incident of physical assault against an elderly woman in Patiala, Punjab. The victim, identified as Ritu Mittal, was reportedly attacked by her daughter-in-law, Babita Mittal, following a dispute regarding the administration of medicine to a sick child.

According to a complaint filed by the victim's eldest son, Rahul Mittal, the assault occurred on Wednesday, August 19, while other family members were away from the home in Sular Colony. The footage shows the accused lifting the victim by her neck and striking her against a stairwell grill, followed by physical punches.

Ritu Mittal is currently receiving treatment at Rajindra Hospital for injuries to her neck, back, hips, abdomen, and legs. While a police complaint has been lodged by the victim's son, the victim has expressed hesitation regarding immediate legal action against her daughter-in-law, characterizing the incident as a domestic matter.
