Patient Academy in Kielce addresses hematology education and specialist shortages
The third edition of the Patient Academy was held at the Świętokrzyskie Oncology Center in Kielce, organized by the Caritas Foundation. The event, which saw record attendance of over 80 people, was designed to provide education for individuals with hemato-oncological diseases and their families.
Professor Marcin Pasiarski, head of the Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation Clinic, highlighted that while hematology is advancing through modern diagnostic methods, the field faces a shortage of specialists. He also noted a lack of public awareness regarding blood diseases and the importance of basic laboratory tests, such as blood morphology.
Discussions at the academy covered modern reimbursed therapies, managing treatment complications, stress management, and the importance of vaccinations. Experts also addressed how to navigate medical fake news. Pasiarski emphasized that lifestyle factors, including physical activity, nutrition, and avoiding substances like alcohol and tobacco, play a critical role in supporting the immune system.
