Patient with terminal esophageal cancer shows recovery after critical prognosis

A 62-year-old man from Thai Nguyen, Vietnam, facing terminal esophageal cancer has shown unexpected signs of recovery after being given only four to six months to live. The patient, identified as N. V. D., initially underwent chemo-radiotherapy in early 2025, but his condition worsened, progressing to the final stage by August 2025.

By late 2025, the disease recurred, causing severe ulceration in the esophagus and neck, significant weight loss of over 10kg, and extreme physical exhaustion. After previous medical facilities recommended halting specific treatments in favor of palliative care, the patient sought assistance at the International Center for Oncology, Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine at Phuong Dong General Hospital.

Despite severe complications and a weakened physical state, doctors at the center provided a comprehensive assessment that allowed for new interventions. Following ten days of treatment, the patient's condition began to stabilize, opening the possibility for continued chemotherapy.
