Patna-Gaya rail services disrupted by Punpun River flooding
Heavy rainfall and the rising water levels of the Punpun River have severely disrupted rail services on the Patna-Gaya section in Bihar. The river's water level has reached the girders of rail bridge number 21, prompting the Danapur Division of East Central Railway to suspend operations on the down line to ensure passenger safety.
As a result of the flooding, 10 MEMU passenger trains have been cancelled, including several services between Patna and Gaya, as well as routes toward Rajgir. To manage the disruption, the railway administration has implemented a single-line operation using only the up line, which has caused significant delays for many trains.
Several long-distance express trains have also been diverted to alternative routes. For instance, the Purnia Court-Hatia Express is being rerouted via Bakhtiarpur and Kiul, while the Dhanbad-Patna Express is traveling through Bandhua, Tilaiya, Islampur, and Fatuha. The Banaras-Rajgir Express is also being diverted through DDU, Buxar, and Ara. A special control war room has been activated to monitor the situation and manage train movements until water levels recede and safety inspections are completed.
