Patna student protest over paper leak and recruitment exam irregularities met with police water cannon
On Tuesday in Patna, Bihar, thousands of students from NSUI and other groups marched toward the Chief Minister's residence demanding an impartial probe into a recent paper‑leak scandal, investigation of recruitment‑exam irregularities, faster completion of pending recruitments and more job opportunities. Police had set up barricades at JP Golambar, the Income‑Tax circle and other key junctions. When demonstrators attempted to breach the barricades, officers deployed a water cannon and arrested several protesters, including NSUI national president Vinod Jakhad and Congress state president Rajesh Ram.
The protest also called for the withdrawal of cases filed against students during earlier clashes, compensation for a student injured in a previous Siwan protest, and the release of detained demonstrators. Police said the force was necessary to maintain law and order, while the march caused temporary traffic disruptions on major city arteries.
