Patong security guards video resurfaces despite being old incident

A video circulating online showing security guards at a venue on Bangla Road in Patong, Phuket, beating a foreign tourist has sparked widespread criticism. The footage depicts guards dragging a man from an entrance and kicking and punching him on the street.

However, local officials and sources have clarified that the footage is old and does not represent a recent event. Patong municipal councillor Weerawit Kruesombat stated that the incident occurred some time ago and was settled privately between all parties involved, including the payment of compensation.

Reports indicate the original altercation began when three intoxicated tourists were refused entry to a venue. While the guards claimed they were attempting to contain the situation, the level of force used drew scrutiny. Kruesombat criticized the reposting of the clip without context, noting that presenting old footage as current misleads the public and damages the reputation of Patong.
