Patos police arrest parents after 23-day-old infant killed by stabbing
Police in Patos, Paraíba, have arrested two 19-year-old parents following the brutal death of their 23-day-old infant, who was killed by 24 stab wounds. Forensic examinations revealed 13 wounds on the back and arms, and 11 on the front, including the abdomen, face, and chest, with one strike piercing the heart.
The suspects, identified in judicial documents as Mirelly and Pacheco, provided conflicting accounts of the incident, each accusing the other of the crime. Authorities noted inconsistencies in the mother's testimony; while she claimed to have filmed the event, police found no such footage on her seized mobile device. Additionally, judicial documents suggest she may have attempted to tamper with evidence by cleaning blood from her hands on the infant's body.
The Civil Police have charged both individuals with aggravated homicide and omission. Following the discovery of the body, neighbors reportedly broke into the residence and burned furniture in protest.
