Giorgos Patoulis and Anastasia Giamali clash over Mazonakis case

A heated confrontation occurred on Mega TV between journalist Anastasia Giamali and Giorgos Patoulis, President of the Medical Association of Athens (ISA), regarding the investigation into the death of Giorgos Mazonakis.

During the broadcast of ‘Exelixis Tora’, Patoulis intervened via telephone to defend the ISA against questions concerning oversight of a clinic in Kolonaki. He accused Giamali of acting like a ‘judge without ears’ and attempting to conduct a ‘trial’ through her media platform. Patoulis argued that the ISA does not have the capacity or obligation to monitor every individual speaker at conferences, specifically addressing a medical tourism event where one of the doctors implicated in the Mazonakis case had spoken.

Giamali countered by questioning how the ISA could provide its auspices to a conference featuring a doctor involved in such controversies. She emphasized her role is to ask questions and investigate, rather than to act as a judge. The debate also touched on political accusations, with Patoulis suggesting Giamali’s questioning was biased due to her perceived political leanings, a claim she rejected as provocative and unacceptable.
