Patras Apollo Theater restoration project launched
Restoration procedures have been initiated for the historic Apollo Theater in Patras, Greece, 155 years after its construction began in 1871. Following approval from the Ministry of Culture, the project aims to restore and repurpose the monument as a modern theatrical and musical venue.
The project has a total budget of approximately 20.8 million euros. Funding is provided by the ‘Western Greece 2021-2027’ program with roughly 17 million euros, and the Ministry of Culture with approximately 3.7 million euros.
Planned works include the restoration of external facades, masonry reinforcement, and the replacement of existing roofs to restore the original geometry of the stage tower. The project also involves the neighboring Palace of Word and Art, including the creation of an internal corridor to connect the two buildings, structural reinforcement, and the installation of accessibility features for people with disabilities.
