Patras Archaeological Museum hosts Alfred Mallwitz exhibition

The Patras Archaeological Museum has inaugurated a new exhibition titled ‘Olympia and Greece 1952–1984: Discoveries in the work of Alfred Mallwitz’. The exhibition runs from October 22 to November 23, 2026.

Dedicated to the German architect, architectural historian, and artist Alfred Mallwitz (1919–1986), the display highlights his decisive role in promoting ancient Olympia. Through watercolors, archival materials, and personal notes, the exhibition explores his multifaceted relationship with Greece spanning three decades.

The opening event featured remarks from Lilla Koutsoumpeliiti, archaeologist and curator at the museum, and Dr. Lavrentios Vasiliadis of the Western Greece Region. Georgia Andrikopoulou of the Goethe-Zentrum Patras and Professor Dr. Katja Sporn, Director of the German Archaeological Institute at Athens, also addressed the significance of the collaboration in fostering cultural exchange.
