Patras commemorates 62nd anniversary of Saint Andrew's relic return

Patras is hosting a two-day religious celebration to commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the historic return of the relics of Saint Andrew the Apostle to the city.

In September 1964, the relics were returned to Greece from Italy following a request by Ecumenical Patriarch Athenagoras to Pope Paul VI. The repatriation, which occurred after more than 500 years of the relics being held in the West, was a major event attended by religious and political leaders, as well as thousands of faithful citizens.

The upcoming commemorations will center around the Holy Temple of the Patron Saint and the Three Allies Square, marking the site where the spiritual treasure was originally welcomed by the people of Patras.
