Patras concludes Markatia 2026 cultural festival

The Markatia 2026 festival concluded in the historic Markato neighborhood of Patras following a three-day program held from September 25 to 27. Despite concerns regarding weather conditions and local access restrictions due to ongoing works, the event saw significant public participation.

The festival featured a diverse array of cultural activities, including music, cinema, poetry, and visual arts. Highlights included musical performances at the Roman Stadium, such as a cycle of songs based on the poetry of C.P. Cavafy by Giorgos Diplas and Theodoros Nikolaou. Cinematic events included screenings of award-winning short films from the ‘Thodoros Angelopoulos’ International Short Film Festival and the documentary ‘The Hubris of Humanity’ by Giorgos Avgeropoulos.

Local businesses and workshops also participated, hosting events ranging from traditional Rebetiko music performances to tastings of local products like Patras tentura. The program successfully integrated various cultural venues, shops, and historical sites throughout the neighborhood.
