Patras court begins trial of Eirini Mourtzoukou for infant murders

The trial of 26-year-old Eirini Mourtzoukou began on Friday at the Mixed Jury Court of Patras, Greece, under heavy security. Mourtzoukou faces multiple charges, including premeditated murder in concert and attempted murder.

The indictment alleges she was responsible for the deaths of three infants: a six-month-old child belonging to a friend in February 2021, her own first child at 19 days old in June 2022, and her second daughter, aged two months, in October 2023. Additionally, she is accused of an attempted murder of her former partner during Christmas 2020.

The prosecution has characterized Mourtzoukou as an organized, calculating, and extremely dangerous individual, alleging she felt no guilt and lacked emotional bonds with those around her. While the defense has argued for diminished responsibility, the Achaia Misdemeanor Council fully adopted the prosecutor's proposal, rejecting the claim of reduced culpability.
