Patras firefighter Nikos Papakonstantinopoulos, 36, dies of cancer

Nikos Papakonstantinopoulos, a 36‑year‑old firefighter from Patras, Greece, died on the morning of 3 July after a prolonged battle with cancer. He had served in the Patras Fire Service since 2014 and was a member of the 6th Special Unit for Disaster Management (EMAK), known for rescue operations, forest‑fire response and specialized technical missions. Prior to his firefighting career he served as a paratrooper and commando in the Greek army.

His funeral was held at the Church of Panagia Alexiotissa in Patras at 11:00, attended by family, friends and fellow firefighters. He is survived by his wife Tania, their two young daughters, his parents and siblings. Colleagues praised his dedication, professionalism and the high sense of responsibility he displayed throughout his service.
