Patras hosts UMAC-ICOM 2026 international university museum conference

The University of Patras Museum of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Greek branch of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), is hosting the annual UMAC-ICOM 2026 conference in Patras, Greece. Held from October 12 to 16, 2026, the event is being conducted in a hybrid format, attracting professionals, researchers, and academics from 40 different countries.

The central theme of the conference is ‘University Museums as Actors for Sustainable Development.’ Discussions focus on the pivotal role these institutions play in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically through their contributions to education, research, climate awareness, and social inclusion.

The Region of Western Greece is actively supporting the event, which has been integrated into the 2026 Annual Tourism Promotion Program. Panagiotis Sakellaropoulos, Vice Regional Governor for Tourism Development, noted that the conference serves as an opportunity for international outreach and highlights the interconnectedness of culture, science, education, and tourism.
