Patras International Festival hosts George Kapoutzidis's comedy ‘Karyatida’
George Kapoutzidis's comedy, ‘Karyatida’, was performed on Thursday, August 27, at the Summer Municipal Theatre of Patras as part of the Patras International Festival. Directed by Katerina Mavrogeorgi, the play uses satire and sharp humor to comment on modern Greek reality, including political disputes, national stereotypes, and the contradictions of public life.
The plot centers on the hypothetical return of the sixth Caryatid to Greece, an event that triggers various state and political mechanisms, involving official statements and media coverage. Through this premise, the work provides a satirical portrait of the country, exploring how national emotion coexists with political confrontation and self-subversion.
The production featured a cast including Asimina Anastasopoulou, Stelios Iakovidis, Stelios Xanthoudakis, Agoritsa Oikonomou, Drosos Skotis, Stamatis Fakorelis, and Maria Filini. Local officials, including Deputy Mayor of Culture Pavlos Skouras and Deputy Mayor Athina Kallimani-Georgitsopoulou, were in attendance.
