Patras International Festival to stage Aristophanes’ ‘Peace’

A new adaptation of Aristophanes’ classic comedy ‘Peace’ will be performed on September 3 at 9:00 PM at the Summer Municipal Theatre of Patras as part of the Patras International Festival.

The production is a collaborative effort involving Nikos Karathanos, Foivos Delivorias, and Angelos Triantafyllos. The adaptation features an original text and songs by Delivorias, with direction by Karathanos and co-direction by Triantafyllos. The performance aims to blend Aristophanic humor with contemporary music and theatrical perspectives to address themes of war, social exhaustion, and the human need for peace and normalcy.

Originally staged in 421 BC during the Peloponnesian War, the play uses satire and lyricism to critique the irrationality of conflict. The cast includes Galini Chatzipaschali, Thanasis Alefras, Panos Papadopoulos, and others.
