Patras Municipality Replaces Stolen Streetlights After Widespread Cable Thefts
The Patras municipal lighting department has begun a large‑scale repair operation after almost all copper streetlights were stolen from the Agia area. Crews have been working for five days and expect another ten to fifteen days to fully restore the lighting network.
The thefts have also affected underground lighting in Gouvas, a school complex (E.E.E. EK), and the municipal stadium in Psathopyrgos, with additional attempts reported in Plaz. Repeated cable thefts over the past 20 days have damaged the electrical grid, disrupted municipal services, raised safety concerns for residents, and increased maintenance costs for the city.
