Patras Port identified as key economic driver for Western Greece

The Patras Chamber of Commerce and Industry has highlighted the strategic importance of the Port of Patras for the economy, trade, and tourism of both the city and Western Greece. Marking World Maritime Day, the organization emphasized that the port's geographic location and historical connection to the sea provide a significant comparative advantage that can be further leveraged to boost the local economy.

To create a more dynamic economic environment, the Chamber suggests focusing on the enhancement of freight and passenger connections, infrastructure improvements, and digital and green transformations. A key area of opportunity identified is the expansion of cruise tourism. By encouraging cruise passengers to explore the city's historical center, local cuisine, and shops, the port can transform increased passenger traffic into direct economic benefits for local businesses and services.
