Patras Municipal Council supports removal of antenna in Zarouchleika
The Patras Municipal Council has approved a resolution supporting residents' demands to remove a newly installed mobile phone antenna on Telamonos Street in the Zarouchleika district, specifically in the Neapoli area.
Local residents and parents have organized protests due to the antenna's proximity to sensitive social and educational structures. The installation is located approximately 64 meters from a municipal center for people with disabilities (KDAP-AMEA), 185 meters from a kindergarten and primary school, and 283 meters from other educational facilities. Within a 500-meter radius, there is also a health center, a gymnasium, and several other schools.
The Municipal Authority and the President of the Southern District, Dimitris Bousias, have joined the protesters in calling for the antenna's removal. The municipality criticized the current telecommunications framework, citing a lack of urban planning that allows for uncontrolled installations in densely populated areas. Furthermore, officials raised concerns regarding changes made in December 2025 to electromagnetic radiation exposure limits in Greece, noting that current standards focus on thermal effects rather than long-term health risks.
