Patras to host event marking 100 years since birth of Nikos Kachitsis

The University of Patras, Kichli Publications, and the Polyedro bookstore are organizing a commemorative event to honor the life and work of prose writer Nikos Kachitsis. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at 20:00 in Patras.

Kachitsis, born in 1926 in Gastouni, was a significant figure in post-war Greek literature. His early years in Patras during the Occupation and the Civil War deeply influenced his writing. After military service, he worked in Africa before settling permanently in Montreal, Canada, in 1956. Despite living abroad, he maintained strong literary ties to Greece through extensive correspondence.

The event will feature speakers including Eleni Papargyriou, an Assistant Professor at the University of Patras, and Dimitris Papanikolaou, former head of the Patras Municipal Art Gallery, among others. They will discuss his literary legacy, his life in exile, and his enduring connection to Patras.
