Patriarch Bartholomew I to visit Loreto

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, Archbishop of Constantinople, is scheduled to visit the Holy House of Loreto on Monday, October 26. The visit coincides with celebrations for the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.

During the visit, the Patriarch will venerate the relic of the Holy House and bless a new Byzantine icon of the Virgin Mary. This icon is inspired by an ancient image held in the Sanctuary until the 1400s. Monsignor Fabio Dal Cin, the Pontifical Delegate, described the icon as a “small and strong sign” of communion between Christian traditions.

Bartholomew I is recognized for his work in ecumenism, peace promotion, and environmental protection. His leadership has been characterized by ongoing dialogue with the Catholic Church, having met with several Popes throughout his tenure.
