Patriarch Porfirije visits Serbian Orthodox communities in Australia

Patriarch Porfirije of the Serbian Orthodox Church is conducting a canonical visit to the Metropolis of Australia and New Zealand. During his visit, he was welcomed at the St. Sava Monastery in Yallourn, near Melbourne, by Archimandrite Teodor and the local faithful.

In his address, the Patriarch emphasized that the Church serves as a guardian of national identity for the Serbian diaspora. He noted that while many immigrants originally arrived seeking physical survival, the Church has provided spiritual health and a connection to their homeland. He stated that the presence of the Church in Australia demonstrates that the mission of the apostles continues across the globe.

Additionally, the Patriarch presided over the consecration of the St. Stephen the Protomartyr Church in Keilor, Melbourne, on October 11, 2026. He remarked that wherever an Orthodox Serb resides, Serbia exists in their heart, highlighting how faith transcends geographical distances and unites the community.
