Patriarch Porfirije leads 150th Vučji Do battle commemoration

Patriarch Porfirije of the Serbian Orthodox Church travelled to Nikšić, Montenegro to take part in a two‑day ceremony marking the 150th anniversary of the 1876 Battle of Vučji Do. He was received at Podgorica airport by Metropolitan Joanikije and Metodije, then joined local officials and several hundred citizens for a solemn academic service at the Cathedral of Saint Basil in Nikšić.

During the ceremony Porfirije said the site “remains a permanent testimony of faith, hope and love, and of the unity and sacrifice of our ancestors.” He highlighted the battle’s role in securing Montenegro’s territorial expansion and its international recognition at the 1878 Berlin Congress, urging continued solidarity among Serbs, Montenegrins, Herzegovinians and others who fought for freedom.
