Patriarch Porfirije of the Serbian Orthodox Church led the funeral service for Ratko Mladić at the Church of St. Luke in Kosutnjak. During the service, the Patriarch stated that Mladić’s name would remain “deeply woven into the memory and prayers of the largest part of the Serbian Orthodox people.” He described Mladić as a soldier and commander who led his people during a difficult and tragic time.
Mladić, the former commander of the Army of Republika Srpska, passed away on August 27 while serving a life sentence at the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in The Hague. Following the service, a procession will proceed to Topčider Cemetery, where Mladić will be buried next to his daughter, Ana, according to his wishes.
