Patriarch Theodore II arrives in Chios for religious and cultural visit
Theodore II, the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, arrived in Chios on Friday morning for a multi-day visit scheduled to conclude on Tuesday, September 1. The visit includes a diverse program of religious, cultural, and institutional events, and the Patriarch is also a guest of honor at the Chios Festival.
Upon arrival, the Patriarch was welcomed by Metropolitan Markos of Chios, Psara, and Oinousses, along with regional authorities and military officials. Members of the local Cretan association also attended the reception in traditional attire to honor the Patriarch’s Cretan origins.
The official itinerary features several Patriarchal Divine Liturgies, including a service on Saturday morning at the Holy Church of Agios Markos Vrontados. Other planned activities include visits to the Library of the Holy Metropolis of Chios, the inauguration of an exhibition by Sotiris Sorokas, and visits to religious monuments such as the Holy Shrine of the Early Christian Basilica of Agios Isidoros and the church of Agios Georgios in Sykousa.
