Argentina faces budget disputes over disability funding and Olivos security changes

The Argentine government is facing political tension over the 2027 Budget proposal, specifically regarding cuts to disability services. While the original text proposed changes to pension requirements and the frequency of benefit updates—moving from monthly to bimonthly adjustments based on the Consumer Price Index—the administration is now negotiating with allies like PRO and the UCR to maintain the existing nomenclator and automatic updates to avoid further conflict.

Governor Martín Llaryora of Córdoba has publicly rejected the proposed cuts, stating that disability policies are non-negotiable in his province. Meanwhile, internal friction has emerged within the ruling coalition, with Senator Patricia Bullrich expressing dissatisfaction over the lack of prior consultation regarding these budget modifications.

Separately, the government has implemented a security reorganization at the Olivos presidential residence. Following concerns over information leaks, at least 12 employees were dismissed, and management of the residence has been transferred to Casa Militar. Chief of Staff Diego Santilli described these changes as purely political decisions aimed at reinforcing security.
