Patricia Heaton discusses journey to sobriety

Actress Patricia Heaton has shared that a confrontation with her youngest son served as a turning point in her journey toward sobriety. In an interview with Woman’s World, the 68-year-old ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ star explained that her drinking habits increased during the pre-pandemic period after her children left home and her work schedule changed.

Heaton noted that she began to notice her own behavior changing and felt a need to seek help through prayer. The catalyst for her decision to stop drinking occurred when she struggled to pronounce the word ‘tradition’ while with her sons and their friends. Her youngest son, Daniel, remarked, ‘That’s great, mom. You can’t even speak,’ a comment Heaton described as mortifying.
