Patricia Kokura, humanitarian and teacher, passes away
Patricia Kokura, a former elementary school teacher and humanitarian, passed away on September 9, 2026. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, she spent much of her career teaching in the Alberni Valley.
Following her retirement in the mid-1990s, Kokura spent 20 years in Mbarara, Uganda. During her time there, she established a project to support street children, which included purchasing land to create a permanent home and educational foundation for them. The project continues to operate under local leadership.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Oaks of Righteousness in Uganda to support her ongoing legacy.
