Patrick Bruel authorized to travel abroad following easing of judicial control

French singer and actor Patrick Bruel has been granted permission to travel abroad following a partial easing of his judicial control. An investigating judge approved the request from Bruel's lawyers on July 21, 2026, lifting the previous restriction that prohibited him from leaving French territory.

The Nanterre prosecutor's office has formally appealed this decision, labeling the lifting of the travel ban as ‘unjustified’ and ‘excessive’. The appeal was heard by the instruction chamber of the Versailles Court of Appeal, with a final decision expected on September 16.

Bruel, 67, has been under investigation since June 10 for multiple allegations, including rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment. He is currently facing four separate investigations and holds the status of assisted witness in four others. While he is permitted to travel, he remains subject to several strict conditions, including a prohibition on contacting the accusers, a ban on visiting massage parlors, a requirement to undergo psychological care, and a 500,000 euro bail.
