Patrick Bruel cancels autumn tour amid sexual assault investigations
French singer Patrick Bruel has announced the cancellation of his 35-date autumn tour, which was intended to celebrate the 35th anniversary of his album ‘Alors regarde’. Bruel stated that the decision was made to seek ‘appeasement’ after the tour became the ‘embodiment of a debate that transcends music.’
The cancellation follows intense pressure from various political figures and mayors in cities such as Chartres, Dijon, and Saint-Étienne, who had publicly opposed his performances. Bruel is currently under investigation in four separate cases involving allegations of rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment. He is also held as a ‘witness assistant’ in four other similar cases.
New testimonies have emerged, including allegations from singer Helena Noguerra regarding an incident in 2000. Additionally, lawyers representing other complainants, such as Flavie Flament, have indicated that further legal actions are being prepared. While Bruel maintains his innocence and vows to fight the charges, the tour's cancellation affects approximately 150,000 ticket holders and nearly 100 industry professionals.
