Patrick Bruel cancels concert tour amid sexual assault allegations

French singer Patrick Bruel has canceled his upcoming autumn concert tour following a surge of sexual assault and rape allegations. The decision comes amid growing public pressure and opposition from various mayors and feminist associations.

Since an initial investigation by Mediapart in March, the number of complaints has risen significantly, with reports indicating approximately 31 complaints filed, including 12 for rape. Bruel has been placed under formal investigation in four cases involving rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment. He maintains his innocence and states he will continue to defend himself legally.

High-profile figures, including presenter Flavie Flament and actress Helena Noguerra, have come forward with testimonies. Flament, who filed a complaint regarding alleged events when she was sixteen, described the situation as a potential ‘French MeToo’ moment. Other accusers, such as Karine Viseur, have expressed relief at the tour's cancellation, viewing it as a necessary step for public safety and respect for victims.

Public reaction remains divided. While many support the accusers, some figures, such as actress Mimie Mathy, have defended Bruel, suggesting he has been ‘more harassed than harasser’ and emphasizing the presumption of innocence.
