Patrick Bruel placed under judicial control, ordered psychological care as sexual assault allegations mount
After being placed under judicial control on 10 June, French singer Patrick Bruel faces a series of restrictions: he may not leave France, must surrender his passport, is barred from contacting alleged victims or their families, prohibited from entering massage salons, required to post a €500,000 bail, and ordered to receive regular psychological treatment aimed at assessing his behavior and preventing recidivism.
The measures follow multiple accusations involving nine women, including a new testimony from a masseuse who says Bruel assaulted her during a massage at the 2019 Déferlantes festival in Perpignan. She described unwanted sexual advances and repeated touching of her buttocks. Bruel denies all allegations and maintains his innocence, stating he has never forced anyone.
The case has revived past public statements, such as a 1990 interview where Bruel criticized "male cowardice" and spoke about women’s vulnerability. Lawyers have criticised the speed of the investigation and the imposition of psychological care before any verdict. Proceedings remain ongoing.
