Patrick Bruel faces concert cancellation calls amid sexual violence investigations

Singer Patrick Bruel is facing intense scrutiny and calls for concert cancellations across France following allegations of sexual violence. Bruel is currently under formal investigation in four cases and holds the status of an assisted witness in four others.

Feminist collectives and local officials have reacted with varying degrees of opposition. In Lorraine, activists have labeled the upcoming tour a ‘tournée de la honte’ (tour of shame), while the mayor of Orléans, Serge Grouard, stated that while he will not attend the concerts, it is not the role of mayors to cancel them as the justice system has not issued such a prohibition.

The controversy has also sparked political and personal debate. National Rally deputy Julien Odoul drew criticism for suggesting the possibility of false testimonies and manipulative behavior by women. Meanwhile, David Pelicot, son of Gisèle Pelicot, criticized the decision to maintain the tour, arguing it fosters a sense of impunity and reinforces a ‘mechanic of silence’ within society.
